Who is salamander obernewtyn

I do think that this volume could have been trimmed down, because there was a lot of repetition of Elspeth bemoaning her fate and going over and over the things she has learnt and still must find out.

It just got a little boring. Just take my word for it. Perhaps this too is a result of her quest having not quite stalled, but certainly slowed down. Carmody keeps revealing more and more of the Beforetime, the end of which is some time — possibly centuries — into our own future. The hints that Carmody gives about cryogenics, and gene storage, and computers, are really cleverly done. The lands of Sador and the Red Lands, introduced later in the series, are certainly more foreign and interesting.

I presume I am not the only one who spends half their time trying to figure out where in our world these places correspond to. If you have been on this journey with Elspeth for a while now and are desperate to see just how Carmody is going to tie all of those threads together, then of course you have to read it… but, I would suggest, wait for the last book to be published. I feel for your frustration.

However, I actually chose not to start The Stone Key when I realised what a wait there was going to be for the end of the story. Of course, clearly that was your plan to and if crashed and burned on you. Spoilers for The Stone Key, but I will always make sure to say if there are spoilers for the actual book under consideration! Yes, that plan did indeed crash and BURN for me.

Are you saying that it exists as a complete book somewhere, or that other areas are waiting til next year for the whole thing? Do you know about obernewtyn. I have the ebooks as two books since they came out in the US.

I have a paper copy that is the whole book. LIke I said, totally confusing. As far as I understand it, The Sending is now the second-to-last book in the series because The Stone Key can be one book or two, numbering from the beginning causes issues and it is easier to go backwards , with the last one probably called The Red Queen and currently being written.

The Sending is only out in Australia at this point, I believe. No one is currently clear what the US release will be. On the positive side, I believe The Red Queen is already written I think I read Isobelle stating this in an interview or blog somewhere , and will be published sooner rather than later.

It really made me alot happier! Luckily, I knew The Sending was the second last book before I read it, or I would have been very angry! There should be an internet meme somewhere. What a very interesting theory, and reasonably convincing too! I haven't read the series in a while, so I'm a little rusty in terms of details, such as whether Jakoby's bondmate has ever been mentioned.

I sort of presumed that he was dead. It certainly would be a twist for us to find out that Salamander isn't that evil, or perhaps he didn't start evilly and just has grown into that i.

And the ship is also another good point. I forgot to add that I think the book in Gadi that Elspeth found was planted there. Many times in the series Elspeth is close to discovering something too soon but is turned aside by some lucky accident.

What if there had been more definitive proof of Salamander's identity in the room but it was not time for Elspeth to see it? Also I think the book will be translated or it's contents revealed in book 8. The theory that Erin Druid is Salamander's companion seems correct on the surface but may be wrong about some things. I think that when the Druid's camp burned Erin was set aside by Ariel for his own use.

Her father had wanted them to bond after all and since Ariel is very fair and clever it's likely that she went with him willingly. Also, she probably had no idea that the others from the camp were sold as well until after the fact. It would please Ariel to no end to have her doing his bidding and be unaware that her own actions had sent her family into slavery.

For all her flighty ways Erin still has a sort of feral cunning about her and I have no doubt she eventually figured out what was going on. But she could not stop it and perhaps ended up turning to Salamander for comfort because he is literally the lesser of the two evils. I think it was Ariel who showered her with luxuries but Salamander was courting her by the time the Misfits gained Herder Isle. The jewelry was a love token and the book may have contained some poetry or was perhaps a diary written in Gadi that he was reading to Erin.

Sadorians refer to Gadi as the language of passion and so it seems likely that Salamander would use it to woo a potential bondmate. With this turn of events Erin's involvement is much less sinister and kind of sets up her eventual reunion with her sister and her father's people. Black Ship has docked in the Red Queen's land many times and Salamander would have a certain amount of liberty to walk about. Gilaine, Jow, and the others would be hard to find but not impossible. The hard part would be convincing them to leave with the man who enslaved them and so that's why I think they're still enslaved at all.

Some will probably point out that if Erin was with Ariel before she was with Salamander then she would know whether or not Lidge is the second null. I don't think so because Ariel's Misfit power seems to be excellent project management skills and he can work on many different things without them overlapping. Ariel is a cruel [censored] but he is great at compartmentalizing his affairs so those involved know only what their part in his plans are. Erin knowing about Lidge would mean she was a high risk companion and so she could never leave his sight or would have been killed once she went over to Salamander.

I definitely think Lidge is the second null but none who knew Lidge in life would have known it My theory about Lidge is connected to this new line of reasoning will be posted some time later today. Master of Obernewtyn. It seems very Aside from that I only have one real problem with the possibility of Salamander being either Saresh or Jakoby's bondmate; we don't really know them. Aside: do you want this theory published to the Theories archive, by any chance?

But, Salamander showed up around the time the Druid's camp was destroyed, and that Salamander has a beautiful woman speak for him - I agree, that sounds like Erin to me. Alternatively, the beautiful woman could be Saresh, but Ariel coerces her appearance to make her look how she would if she weren't deformed which may be why she wants to keep him around. The other thing that made me think the Druid was that the Black Ship has beforetime weapons on it could it be a reclaimed Navy vessel?

Maybe they found it on Norseland, in or around the bunker there - long shot, I know - we know the Druid was always on the hunt for weapons, even accidentally?

That the Druid would have sold some of his own people into slavery including his mute daughter - well, it's callous but not implausible, particularly in order to seal a deal with the Red Landers that gave him the ability to search their regions and beyond for more weapons. In Farseekers he only seems to acknowledge Erin, and we know the Druid gets rid of anything that isn't his version of perfect. Where is he? If I don't see a dead body, nothing will convince me he's dead. As for the second null - I'd be interested to hear the Lidge theory.

I think it's been toyed with in other random threads, as has the possibility of it being Jes. I have been wondering the same things! I think Salamander IS Bruna's sister coming to take revenge for the wrongs she believed she suffered. It could fit all the descriptions and why Salamander hides "his" face, etc. Posts: Quick thought, how about the possibility that Seresh has coercive abilities herself? We know that the overguardian has Talent, so presumably others among the temple must have some level of Talent since they were all exposed to the same poisoned water in the womb.

And Seresh could hide her deformity the same way, using the wrapping as an extra level of safety. Not sure if this theory has been raised before, just occurred to me.

Late night typical brain going off on tangents haha. I agree Ashe! It is quite possible that she would have some level of Talent. Ever since Elspeth discovered the room in Salamander's stronghold with the beautiful clothing, and we heard that Salamander has never actually been seen in the company of his female 'companion' at least, I don't think he has, correct me if I'm wrong , I became quite sure it must be Seresh.

She was deprived of beautiful things and worldly possessions as a temple guardian and Jakoby said she had loved beautiful things However I suppose it's possible that Jakoby's bondmate could be Salamander I feel like there haven't been enough little clues about him for him to turn out to be such an important character though.

OOOoo that totally makes sense about the clothes Kella! Hadn't thought about that part of TSK in ages but doing a reread of them all before Nov and that definitely fits in with Seresh being Salamander.

AND she loved dancing before her mother gave her to the temple so she might be recreating what she lost when she entered the temple.
